ORIGIN OF VOLLEYBALL On February 9, 1895, William G. Morgan, a physical education director at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, invented a game called Mintonette. The game took some of it's characteristics from tennis, handball, and basketball. Mintonette was designed to be an indoor sport for older members of the YMCA, while still requiring a bit of athletic effort.
